Provence and Camargue by Bike & Boat, Between Avignon and Aigues-Mortes
- Activity level:
- Accommodation: Superior
- Period: March to October

France is particularly well suited to cycling travel. The country is structured by some of the most developed cycling itineraries in Europe, a dense network of greenways and small agricultural roads, and a diversity of landscapes that can change in just a few days, from the Atlantic coast to river valleys, from southern vineyards to major mountain ranges.
Our trips explore these regions where cycling truly makes sense. In the South, point-to-point trips follow major historic and natural routes: the Canal du Midi between Toulouse and the Mediterranean, the luminous roads of Provence between the Alpilles, the Luberon and the vineyards of the Côtes-du-Rhône, or the Camargue, with its ponds, rice fields and wide-open spaces. Some routes combine cycling and navigation, with the comfort of a boat in the evening and the freedom to ride at your own pace during the day.
Farther west, the atmosphere changes. Charente-Maritime and the Atlantic offer long bike paths between beaches, pine forests and salt marshes, with accessible and regular stages. In the Southwest, the Périgord Noir concentrates exceptional richness over short distances: medieval villages, castles overlooking the Dordogne, gourmet markets and prehistoric sites in the Vézère Valley, listed by UNESCO.
France also makes it possible to follow its great rivers. The Loire by Bike is one of the country’s most emblematic itineraries. From Blois to Nantes, the route follows the rhythm of the river on dedicated paths and very quiet roads. Renaissance castles such as Chambord and Chenonceau, Loire villages, the gardens of Villandry and the vineyards of Touraine and Anjou follow one another on mostly flat terrain, ideal for a smooth and accessible trip.
For more athletic cyclists, the terrain changes scale. Major crossings of the Alps or the Pyrenees link the legendary passes of the Tour de France, long climbs and high-mountain panoramas, with atmospheres that gradually evolve from valley to valley.
From one trip to another, the experience remains deeply rooted in the territories. Cycling allows you to enter the landscapes, cross lively villages, stop at a market, visit a producer or a cellar, and discover dense heritage, regional specialties and a lifestyle that fully reveals itself at handlebar height.
