One region where we find the most diversified bike routes in Quebec. Sometimes flat, sometimes hilly, all cyclists find their pleasure. Asphalt country roads stretch along crop fields, forests, and lakes to fill your lungs with fresh air. Here, climate is conducive to agriculture, therefore the Eastern Townships offers you tasty and healthy local product such as wineries, orchards, microbrewies, meat, fruits and vegetables, all prepared by passionate farmers and cultivators. You will be charmed by the landscapes. Welcome to the countryside!
Route description : this Eastern touwnship tour is almost entirely paved except for some sections on dirt road to access nice area and avoid higher traffic road. Shoulders are available on main roads. For secondary roads the traffic is light. This tour is ideal for riding with cyclists of different levels.
Your adventure starts from Ardennais's Vineyard, one of the tour partner, where your car will be parked safely during your ride. Take the time to enjoy the site's beauty and tranquility while preparing yourself for this Great Loop. For the first kilometers, you ride under majestic tree cover forming an arch of shade above you. Throughout the circuit, the landscape offers small plains where fields, pastures, vineyards and orchards are established. Against the backdrop of mountains and cut out with small forests, these plains open onto a panorama typical of the region and the wine route. Along the way, you discover Bedford with its cheese factory and the New England-inspired architecture that characterizes the entire border area. When you reached your destination, Dunham Brewery invites you to stop by its shop to pick up a welcome beer. The ideal aperitif before enjoying one of Dunham's excellent gastronomic tables. Overnight in the heart of the village. (Plahn to ride on two short gravel sections less than two kilometers)

A day all in progress. The first part of the day takes place on flat ground on the border of Montérégie. In the second part, a few low percentage climbs will warm your legs and take you to the charming village of Frelighsburg, a member of the Association des plus beaux villages du Québec. The mythical Joy Hill will not fail to convince you that you are going through the third part of the day with several steep climbs. You will have about twenty kilometers to rebuild your legs on the roads that graze the American border. Hilly, these roads offer some of the best views of the Vermont Green Mountain range that runs out of steam on this side of the border. From the small village of Abercorn you will see a new side of Mount Pinacle and the Sutton Mountains massif. You will continue to Sutton, the second stopover town. Before enjoying this lively village and its many options for aperitifs, especially with Brouërie and À l'Abordage, two local microbreweries, and its restaurants, climbers of the long circuit are invited to add a few meters on the clock with a well noted climb and essential in the sector.

Departing from Sutton, your efforts will be rewarded after an ascent of about five kilometers in stages with a long descent curvy for pilot enthusiasts. You will then reach the Missisquoi Valley, characterized by its valleys and curves, the road is bordered by the Monts Sutton massif on one side and the Missisquoi River on the other. In Mansonville, take advantage of your visit to this village to discover the famous round barn. Built in 1912, it is one of the last seven in the Cantons-de-l'Est. You will then embark on a long gradual climb to Owl's Head. In Vale Perkins, take the time to visit the Jewett General Store, a heritage gem in Potton, built in 1860. Those who will still face some challenges on the roads of the long course, a taste of the landscapes of the next day s' offers your gaze with the roads overlooking the majestic Lake Memphremagog.

Departing from Mansonville, a succession of small climbs will lead you to the city of Magog, the flagship village of Memphrémagog with its lake of the same name. Along the way, curious cyclists will not hesitate to take the 2 km detour to discover the famous climb that leads to the Abbey of St-Benoit-du-Lac and take the visit included in the package. Along the way, you can stop at Gourmet par Nature, an artisanal soap factory where you will enjoy a good ice cream before getting back on the road. Arriving on the outskirts of Magog, the circuit offers you a few additional kilometers on the climbing routes around Mount Orford. That said, both for the long circuit and the short, the last kilometers will be gentle with the descent that will lead you to the heart of the village where the beach, downtown shops and terraces await you.

Short or long, this loop will make you discover more of the beauty of Memphémagog. From Magog to Compton-Station, via Ayer’s Clif you will take relatively coastal roads; the long circuit also offers more rolling sections if the desire to increase the pace takes you. There are many gourmet temptations on the course, they will certainly lead you to set foot for one of the many possible stops on the course: the Café des folies at Ayer’s Cliff and its shop which is full of local products; Whether Happiness in Compton for a healthy dinner or a sweet treat, sorbets and gelatos are a must; the Fromagerie de la Station will not leave amateurs behind… rooming a good firm dough in your swimsuit on the way back. In Hatley, you will be amazed by the charm of old houses and then by North Hatley, considered one of the most beautiful villages in Quebec. After admiring the view of Lake Massawippi, you will continue your journey to return to Magog. Look to add an exotic touch to your ride by booking a passage (for you and your bike) on the river shuttle between North Hatley and Ayer’s Clif (extra). Finally, if fatigue has built up over the last few days, now is the perfect time for a short restorative bike break to leave energized on the last portion of the trip.

Two very different options for this sixth day of cycling where the lakes are in the spotlight. With the short circuit, leave the big climbs behind you; The fifty kilometers of the day have a more moderate drop in altitude, on the other hand it is possible that the wind will come into this area to add a little challenge to your day. No worries, you will have many opportunities to set foot ashore to enjoy the villages of Easman, Stuckley and Waterloo and their respective lakes. In Waterloo, the public beach invites you to have a picnic, you will find a good snack nearby.
Did you miss the Abbey of St-Benoit-du-Lac the day before or want to do it again? This opportunity is offered to you by embarking on the long circuit. Passing St-Benoit, you will ride on a magnificent narrow, hilly and dotted with small lake road to Austin. From there the two challenges of the day will follow: Mount Glen and Mount Echo. With the efforts expended, it would not be surprising if the smell of Brome Lake Duck tickles your appetite. Your thirst will not be outdone either with the passage in front of the vineyard and cider house. Less than ten kilometers from the finish line, set foot at Domaine Val Brome where a cider offered by the owners awaits you. Slowly return to Bromont for the end of the day by the pool.

Last day, last challenge that emerges from Bromont. A fairly gentle climb over 2-3 kilometers for the short circuit. The long circuit offers the option of climbing the two large stages of Mont Shefford. The past coasts, the kilometers back to the Ardennes vineyards are relatively flat. They will take you to Brigham where you can stop at the Domaine de la Bauge vineyard and farmhouse. Cyclists passing through Stanbridge East will appreciate the New England architecture and can take a few shots with one of the village's heritage buildings in the background, including the Mill and the Missisquoi Museum. The other cyclists who will ride towards the small hamlet of Mystic, will certainly taste L’œuf's homemade ice cream, a must stop! Energize through your cornet, don't go off with a bang, you'd miss the ancient Wallbridge twelve-sided round barn built a few yards away. Back at Vignoble L’Ardennais after seven days of cycling, celebrate your efforts by taking advantage of the site: visit the vineyard and drop by the store to pick your bottle of victory wine!
